THANK TEACHERS NATIONWIDE THIS WEEK WITH ADOPTACLASSROOM.ORG’S FREE VIDEO eCARDS

Last Chance to Shower Teachers with Gratitude During National Teacher Appreciation Week, May 8-12

MINNEAPOLIS – May 8, 2017 – AdoptAClassroom.org, the national nonprofit that raises funds for teachers, is offering free thank-you video eCards for anyone to send to teachers in celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week. This week marks the national event for recognizing teachers for their dedication to helping our nation’s children learn and succeed. Anyone can participate in this week’s teacher celebration by sending thank-you video eCards, with personal messages, to the special teachers in their lives.

“We want to make it easy for people to shower their teachers with gratitude during Teacher Appreciation Week,” said Ann Ness, executive director of AdoptAClassroom.org. “We believe our video eCards will put smiles on the faces of teachers coast to coast.”

To send free video eCards, anyone can go to AdoptAClassroom.org/ThankATeacher and enter their name and email address, their teacher’s name and email address, select their favorite video eCard and add a personal note.

AdoptAClassroom.org national spokesperson and nine-time Grammy Award–winning singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow teamed up with the nonprofit to help support teachers who need classroom supplies. As a former teacher who comes from a family of teachers, Crow advocates for everyone to honor the teachers in their life, especially during Teacher Appreciation Week.

“We need to support the teachers who changed our lives for the better; teaching is the most important job that exists,” said Crow. “Join me and AdoptAClassroom.org in letting teachers know how important and appreciated they are for the work they do.”

Faced with limited resources, teachers are stepping up and purchasing classroom materials using their own money. U.S. teachers spend an average of nearly $600 a year out of pocket to equip their students with the tools they need to succeed. Twenty percent of teachers spend more than $1,000 annually.

Fifty-one percent of U.S. public school children come from families who cannot afford to provide them with the school supplies they need in the classroom. Teachers are filling the gap to ensure all children have the equal opportunity to learn and succeed. According to a study conducted by AdoptAClassroom.org, 91 percent of teachers purchase school materials for their students. Nationally, this totals more than $1.6 billion each year.
