Hurricane Relief for Teachers (HuRT) Program

Thousands of our friends, family and neighbors along the Atlantic coast were affected when Hurricane Sandy hit this October. They have faced devastating floods, rains and winds, resulting in billions of dollars in damage. To help the East Coast schools, teachers, and students affected by Hurricane Sandy, we’ve launched the Hurricane Relief for Teachers (HuRT) Program to restore resources and materials. According to the Huffington Post, over a week after the devastating storm, 19 schools in New York remained closed and another 48 schools were shut down this week due to storm damage. Now that the brunt of the storms are over, getting schools up and running and kids back in the classrooms is one of the best things we can do to help restore normalcy and keep students on track with their educations.

We are excited to announce that OfficeMax has generously donated $10,000 through the HuRT program for teachers in states affected by Hurricane Sandy. Teachers can use these funds to help purchase materials for temporary classrooms where schools have been closed. In addition to the $10,000 donation, now through November 16, OfficeMax will match every dollar — up to $15,000 — that is donated at any checkout counter in it’s retail locations nationwide or donated through AdoptAClassroom.org/HuRT. OfficeMax is also providing free in-store charging stations, fax, scan and email services to those affected by the storm.

One hundred percent of all funds donated to the HuRT program will go directly to teachers and benefit the students in areas affected by the storm.
