STEAM is an educational approach that integrates science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics and is gaining traction in schools across the country.
To better serve today’s educators and students, AdoptAClassroom.org has combined our Arts and STEM Funds into our new STEAM Fund. We believe by combining the two funds we can help our educators keep students more engaged, while developing the creative and critical thinking skills needed to enter the workforce.
While interdisciplinary learning isn’t new, it isn’t always possible for teachers to bring it to their students. New technology is pricey and arts curriculum is often cut first when budgets dwindle. However, countless studies have found these cuts are detrimental to student success. The Arts Education Navigator found that “low-income students who are highly engaged in the arts are more than twice as likely to graduate college as their peers with no arts education.”
Today two-thirds of all classroom materials are purchased by teachers out of pocket. STEAM classrooms need your help now more than ever.
Donors to the STEAM Fund will support students like Savanna at Flat Rock Elementary in Anderson, South Carolina. AdoptAClassroom.org donors like you made it possible for her library to create a STEAM workspace called a “Makerspace.” Makerspaces provide hands-on learning where students can invent and build.
