Holiday Fundraising Ideas for Teachers

AdoptAClassroom.org wants to make sure that teachers have the supplies they need to support their students year-round. No matter how well-stocked classrooms are in September, consumables like pencils, construction paper, and crayons are used so quickly that many classrooms need these supplies restocked by December.

Luckily, this timing lines up with the season of giving. Nearly 1/3 of annual giving happens in December, so now is the perfect time to fundraise for your classroom.

Not sure where to start? Check out these holiday fundraising ideas:

1. Update your classroom page

Your needs during the back-to-school shopping season might be different from your end of semester supply needs. Update your classroom page so potential donors see what you and your students need right now.

Make sure to update your school address if you recently moved on to a different school so that donors in your community can find you if they’re looking for a local teacher.

Remember, only active classrooms are listed for our donors. Make sure you’re logging in regularly.

2. Ask your neighbors!

In December, people are looking for holiday fundraisers to support. While posting on your Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter page is always a great way to connect with your network, the holiday season is the perfect time to find new neighbors.

Try sharing your classroom page on a neighborhood Facebook page or Nextdoor, a platform that seeks to connect neighbors.

Make sure you’re linking your classroom page properly

3. Be specific!

Donors LOVE supporting fun and interesting holiday fundraising ideas. If you’re raising funds to provide your students with a unique project or experience, explain exactly what you’ll do with the donations you receive and the impact it will have on your students.

4. Show your classroom need

Create a sense of urgency by telling donors why it’s important that your classroom is funded this holiday season.

Did your students use all of your classroom’s back-to-school consumables? Was your classroom or community struck by a disaster? Do you have students coming to class without a coat, hat, or gloves during the winter? Make it clear to your audience that your classroom needs funding TODAY!

Bonus tip: You can also create a sense of urgency by reminding potential donors that it’s their last chance to make a tax-deductible donation before the end of the year.
