Last week, AdoptAClassroom.org and Sheryl Crow showed up for a surprise Pep Rally at Kennett High School in Missouri. Jenna Bush Hager and the Today Show came along to capture the moment as part of their Show Heart Today series.

With the help of Farmers Insurance, we adopted every teacher in the school, giving each of them $600 to spend on their classrooms. Our research shows that the average AdoptAClassroom.org teacher spends nearly $600 per year on supplies, so our hope is that this year, the Kennett teachers can breathe easy.

Sheryl Crow shared with students why this gift was so important. “Your teachers don’t make as much as a rockstar, but in my opinion teachers should make more than rockstars,” she told students.

Why is Sheryl so passionate about teachers? She was a teacher, her sisters are teachers, and her high school teachers were an important part of her journey. “I know I wouldn’t have become who I am without the support of the teachers here in this community telling me there was nothing I couldn’t do.”

The teachers at Kennett were ecstatic, saying this was “the best surprise ever.” One teacher shared that “it felt really good to know that what we do is being recognized.”

Want to help us raise a hand for even more deserving teachers? Donate to our Sheryl Crow Fund to ensure that students across the country have the supplies they need to succeed. We want to guarantee that tomorrow’s musicians, scientists, politicians, and business leaders are not limited by a lack of resources today.

Teachers can’t wait to teach. That’s why we’re proud to have Sheryl Crow as our spokesperson. She’s been a teacher and understands how hard it can be to get the classroom supplies needed to help students learn and succeed.

Raise your hand and help.
